Picking a top level domain name

First, what is a top level domain name? It is the part of the domain name like “.com” in www.companyname.com. You can see a list of possible top level domain names on Wikipedia.

So, which top level domain name should you pick? The easiest answer is “.com”. It is the most common that people associate with businesses.

But, if you preferred domain name isn’t available with a .com, you might want to look at other top level domain name. However, if the .com is being used by the similar company, you might want to change your domain name so you don’t cause confusion. If the domain name and .com isn’t being used, it probably save find another top level domain name for your business.

There are so many to choose from. A few year ago, there was only .net and .org as alternatives. But, some popular alternative are .co, .info, .io, and .tech. You can try to find one that matches your business industry like .design or .attorney or .construction. There are many to select from now.
