Business Name and Domain Name

To get a business name, you need to register a trade name or “doing business as” name with the appropriate government authority.  But, there is a another place where you need to register your business name and that is getting a domain name.  A domain name is the word you enter into a web browser to go to your website on the Internet.  For example, in www.digitalmarketingextreme.com, “digitalmarketingextreme” is the domain name for my business.

Unlike a business name which only needs to be unique in your state, a domain name is global.  Anyone can register one though there can only be one.  So, when you are thinking about a business name, it is important to see if you can register the same domain name to make it easier for your customers and to have a consistent brand.
