If you are looking for a domain name, you may discover that your desired domain name and top-level domain name is already taken.  A number of domain registrar will present an option to make an offer.  Should you try?

The first thing to check is if a website already exists using that domain name.  If so, it is probably unlikely they would be willing to sell.  If the domain shows a “parked” status or “under construction”, there may be a chance you can purchase it.  The purchase price will be much more than the typical price of a domain name.

If you click on the “make an offer” button, you will be redirected to a company that will handle the transaction for a fee.  The benefit is provides an escrow service so you don’t lose your money.

However, sometimes the broker company can’t reach the owner of the domain name and you are still left not being able to purchase the domain name.  So, depending on any processing fees, it is worth a try but think about any processing fees first as there is no guarantee you will be able to reach the owner of the domain name and then agree on a price.
